Menorca.enjoys excellent medical facilities. There is a hospital in Mahon - The Residencia of the Virgen de Monte Toro. It is 50 years old but has been renovated over the years to bring it into line with any other hospital in Europe.

ALL THE SMALLER TOWNS AND VILLAGES HAVE MEDICAL CENTRES OPEN IN THE MORNINGS UNTIL 2.30 DURING THE WEEK FOR LESSER ILLS.

 

PHARMACIES ARE OPEN AT NORMAL TIMES AND SEVERAL ARE ALWAYS OPEN ON A ROTA BASIS ON HOLIDAYS AND WEEK-ENDS.

THE ROTA CAN BE FOUND IN THE LOCAL PAPERS OR ON THE DOOR OF ANY PHARMACY, PLUS IN THE GUIDE BOOKS AND ENGLISH MAGAZINE ROQUETA.

IT IS A 24 HOUR SERVICE.

POLICE SERVICES

The police are divided into 3 groups.

1. MUNICIPAL   -  In-town policing, parking fines etc.

Their uniforms are white and blue and they work from the Town Hall or adjacent town council offices.

2. THE NATIONAL POLICE.  -  These policemen deal with criminal activity within the limits of the town. Their uniforms are dark blue and they have a detective branch. In Mahon their offices are known as the COMISARIA DE POLICIA NACIONAL and are situated in the PLAZA MIRANDA at the back of the old fruit and vegetable market in the town centre.

They will deal with a theft or a lost passport and of course, more serious crime.

3. THE GUARDIA CIVIL.  -  This force is actually a paramilitary organization. Dressed in green uniform they patrol the rural areas and control the main-road traffic on large motorcycles.

They also have a detective branch and deal with terrorism, theft and drug abuse / traficking.

THE GUARDIA CIVIL  have a barracks on the outskirts of Mahon and Ciutadella. The telephone of the Mahon office is  971 36 32 97.

They are generally most helpful and attentive - and for you single girls, most are young and very handsome !!
